Launching a short film crowd-funding project!

Dear friends,

Thanks for stopping by, much appreciated. To cut to the chase: I am crowd-funding the production of my first short film as director, working title ‘Irregardless’. It was written by American screenwriter John Porter (writer of the feature ‘Lost Mother‘), in whom I have found a kindred spirit and hope to collaborate with on many a film project in the future.

The basic premise of the film—the ‘logline’—is below; I fancy it as a tiny romantic comedy. Basically, I’m looking for contributions of between US$20 and US$500 towards a total budget of US$5 000. For this you will earn production credit from Associate Producer to Executive Producer, in addition to DVD copies of the film, the finished screenplay, and invitations to the online début, as well as the cinema premier if you opt in as an Exec.

The plan is to shoot the film in Bemidji, Minnesota (setting of season 1 of the TV series ‘Fargo‘—one of my favourite) in the fall of 2016. The funding period expires in January 2016, so don’t delay if you would like to join me on this—jump in! (I will be in the US in the summer of 2016 to work at Camp Thunderbird, celebrating its 70th anniversary.)

Logline: “Newly-wed high school teachers Ed (English) and Sue (PE) are no doubt devoted to each other, but can their love survive a critical language barrier?”

PS. A little more about me: I am a freelance writer, a surfer, a traveller, a film school graduate with student credits on a 16mm animated short (writer) and sci-fi live action short (associate producer), as well as two years on-set production assistant experience: 4 commercials, 2 features, 2 TV series, 1 doccie. My short story collection ‘New Swell‘ is prescribed in English lit in the ninth grade—the title story was long-listed for the Twenty In 20 project which identified the best South African short stories published in English during the past two decades of democracy. I hold a BA in English literature and a Masters in Creative Writing (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town. I’m currently finishing up a two year tenure as a project manager for a leading South African retail store design agency, and now finally plan to follow my film-making ambitions, with the aim to settle in the US, hopefully finding representation there. [Other work experience includes: waiter, bartender (in London, UK), computer factory worker (London), Scuba diving skipper, surf shop assistant, summer camp head counsellor and special programs director (Camp Thunderbird, Minnesota)].
